We can accept your Publisher files in "native" Publisher or as a PostScript File. See the Commercial Printing chapter in your manual for detailed instructions.

When your document is finished, print it out on your own desktop printer to show us exactly what to expect. Choose Commercial Printing Settings under Tools and go through each option. Under Color Printing select Composite RGB for a single color of ink. Use either CMYK (if your graphics include multicolor images) or Spot Color (for two or more distinct colors-black being one). We suggest you use defaults for trapping and embed and subset fonts. Select File, then Print and choose your printer.

Select TWO copies, one for yourself. Under Separations choose Print Composite. Under Advanced Print Settings check Full Resolution Graphics. Allow font substitution, and select any printers marks you can, and okay bleeds. Print out your copies. Go back to the Print menu. Change Separations to Print Separations. Print one or two sets of separations on your printer. Check carefully to be sure these (which will print as black) are accurate. Save your work NOW!

Pack and Go

At this point you should make a copy of the "native" Publisher file for us on a zip disk or CD. Follow the Pack and Go directions under File. This utility automatically packages all images and fonts you used with your file so we can re-create it on our computers. We can adjust your layout to match the printout you supply, and we will be able to correct any minor errors you find on the proof we send you. (Manipulating your file to print correctly or to make changes is chargeable at our standard hourly rate.)

Open the Print Setup and change the printer to a PostScript printer. Immediately save as... this file under a different name ("Newsletter 2?") so you can go back to your original. Zoom in and look very carefully at your creation, comparing it to your composite printout. Did the line endings move? Are the graphics in the right places and in proportion? Are the colors correct? If the PostScript print driver altered the appearance of your document, adjust it to your liking.

This is easier said than done, especially when changing your file to a booklet or folder, printing two-up on a tabloid sheet. You may need to change the page size to 8 1/2 x 11 and then go back to printer setup and change the paper size to "oversize 11 x 17). Call for help.

Sending a PostScript File

Now that you have perfected your file, why not save time and money and make a PostScript file? Go to File, then Save As..., choose the removable drive (Zip or CD), change the name of the document in the window near the bottom, and finally change the Save as type to PostScript. It's that simple. Just copy the new file (*.ps) to a removable disk to send to us - or email the file.
